Restaurant Review: The Three Tuns (Windsor, Berkshire) on Saturday 14th September 2013

The Three Tuns Baked Potatoes with Beans Windsor Castle

A small city pub in the centre of Windsor, just around the corner from the entrance to the World’s largest inhabited castle and residence of HM The Queen.

Very limited selection from the menu which focused upon providing good value for money rather than an extensive range. The Pub is a quirky building with lots of character. There is seating outside which, on a sunny day, would be lovely to relax in. No indication of Gluten Free options on the menu and the staff provided no support.

I opted for a simple Baked Potato, and even then, the selection of fillings was fairly standard but limited. I had baked beans which was fine and a side salad. Sat enviously watching my friends eat full meals but given the size of the establishment, I was not comfortable with any other options, given the likelihood of cross-contamination (for fried foods). I could have had a salad but the weather pushed me to eat something warm and hot. The potato was clearly microwaved as a large part of it was inedible. They could do better but it was a quick lunch before heading around Windsor Castle.

Note: Entry to Windsor Castle can be obtained in advance and is recommended. We spent over 1 hour waiting in the queue to get into the ticket office. The ticket is valid for 1 year and so I shall be back to spend more time at the Royal Residence.
