Product Reviews, Restaurant Reviews and Recipes: All GLUTEN FREE!
Made by “Bakes just 4 U” and received as part of the “Crate of Nothing” February parcel. It is gluten free and wheat free. A really novel idea with different layers: the top being buttercream which was very lemony followed by a layer of lemon curd. This is delightful and tastes like a tart lemon runny jelly with real pieces of zest. Then a soft crumbly sponge which was still moist with lemon flavour. Another layer of buttercream before more sponge in this “lolly”.
The taste was excellent with clearly defined layers which look great through the plastic packaging. However the lolly has a stick to push the cake up, and this sticks out! In a bag I found the end had been pushed into the cake, effectively jamming and squeezing the cake. The ‘lolly’ kept the individual layers although the top layer of buttercream was rammed into the plastic cap and the lemon curd had soaked into the sponge and finally the sponge layer in the very bottom was eaten with a spoon as it stuck in the container. So storage if you take this out and about is key with this ‘lolly’.
NB Contains Egg and whilst it was delivered as a fresh item as part of the “Crate of Nothing” it is noted to extend the shelf life by 3 weeks, you can store it in a fridge and if you freeze it, this can be eaten within 3 months.
My February “Crate of Nothing” parcel contained a good selection of GLUTEN FREE and DAIRY FREE foods. These items are reviewed individually on my blog. They provide me with a novel way of trying new and exciting foods knowing my food allergies are catered for at £20 per month. It is a mystery what arrives!
