Product Review: Gluten Free Steak Pie (By Genuis)

Genius Steak Pie

Found at Asda (Roehampton, London) and purchased through Click & Collect.

Sold in packs of two inside a cardboard box in the freezer section. Cooks from frozen in the oven in the foil trays in 25 minutes.

A good short crust pastry pie with a lot of large meaty pieces. The pastry is a little too thin and I found the shape doesn’t keep together as it was hard to get it out of the foil tray as a complete sealed pie. The top split from the main body of pie and some of the filling bubbled through during the cooking. The meat was lean and not fatty and the wet gravy was well seasoned. They are of a good size although require accompanying dishes. Mine was served with new potatoes and vegetables.

This pie is very lacking in meat content, all the meat fitted in a dessert spoon and not piled up
Considering the high price it is day light robbery and I would have thought the picture of the pie on the box breaks trading standards it shows chunky bits of meat a lots of it!! The largest piece of meat measured smaller than half a sugar cube. The taste was very nice and flavourful.

I don’t know if their products are affected by their manufacturing process (i.e. frozen pies) but they do seem to vary in terms of inside contents. But I do like their hard firm pastry. Best Wishes PSD.
