Restaurant Review: GLUTEN FREE Spanish Tapas @La Tasca Covent Garden, London

A selection my GLUTEN FREE Tapas at La Tasca

A selection my GLUTEN FREE Tapas at La Tasca

A great centrally located Spanish Restaurant which clearly and unambiguously caters for GLUTEN FREE diners: La Tasca is a great choice for an interesting meal if you’re passing through central London as it’s south of Covent Garden and moments away from Trafalgar Square.

Booked online. A good central Covent Garden location in London.

They have an extensive Menu and clearly indicate which dishes are GLUTEN FREE. This helps you feel welcomed like any other “regular” patron, which isn’t the approach at some other establishments who provide a separate GLUTEN FREE Menu. Surprisingly, the choice is very extensive and instead of a special selection, you review the choices like everyone else!

So here are a few highlights….

GLUTEN FREE Bread roll served with dipping oil.

I don’t think you can enjoy Spanish Tapas without having some bread. It is primarily a great excuse to dip (not in the provided oil) but the sauces of the many dishes and enjoy the juiciness of the flavours. This GLUTEN FREE bread is hard and crunchy, but delicious with a soft inside and plain enough to enjoy with some powerful dishes.

Wild Patagonian King prawns marinated and cooked in a chilli-and-garlic infused oil. GLUTEN FREE.

And the bread was used to soak up the spicy oil.

Pulpo Gratin Y Queso: GLUTEN FREE medley of potatoes and octopus baked in a creamy lobster sauce and gratinated with Manchego Cheese.

Lovely, creamy and delicious: you couldn’t tell it was GLUTEN FREE.

Chorizo Morcilla: GLUTEN FREE Chorizo and GLUTEN FREE Spanish Black Pudding. It was beautiful to taste this black pudding!

The Spanish black pudding was beautiful: really meaty and oaty and GLUTEN FREE.

Jamon Serrano: GLUTEN FREE Spanish 12 month matured ham.

Deliciously salty and fresh.

Pollo con Crema (Castilla): GLUTEN FREE marinated chicken thighs with a creamy spinach and mustard sauce with toasted almonds.

A really creamy dish with lovely meaty chicken in a delicious GLUTEN FREE sauce.

A Festival of Mushrooms : GLUTEN FREE mushrooms sauteed in garlic butter and white wine.

Again, the bread came in handy to soak up the juicy sauce.

In the heart of Covent Garden, it is a large restaurant spread over three floors with a top balcony, the ground floor and a large basement with long tables (probably good for office parties and groups). A with such a great selection for GLUTEN FREE eaters, it is somewhere I look forward to returning to.

Other Eateries reviewed on my blog, in-and-around Covent Garden include Belgo Centraal, Muffinskis, Carluccios and Patisserie Valerie (not that they have a good selection).
