Product Reviews, Restaurant Reviews and Recipes: All GLUTEN FREE!
Beachcombers, @Jumeirah Beach, Dubai.
On the beach in view of the famous Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, this International Buffet is located passed the luxurious pools, sunning decks and amazing shops of the Jumeirah Beach Resort. The buffet starts from 1300 at weekends and concludes around 1600. The Buffet itself is spread over several stations of food with an array of cold salads, seafood (including Oysters), curries, carved meats, childrens dishes, cakes and desserts, ice-creams and a chocolate fountain. Whilst there is no allergen information on individual signs, the staff of the resort are well informed of the ingredients and were very keen to identify which dishes I could enjoy.
In addition, one of the staff suggested that I tried their in-house GLUTEN FREE bread, which I didn’t really fancy (as it was a late lunch I didnt really need the bread but had to try it!). I was presented warmed slices of white GF bread. It was tasty and delicious and the firmness was like having a ciabata.
PF Changs in Abu Dhabi:
Enroute home, we had stopped in Dubai to catch-up with friends and fitted in a brief meal in Abu Dhabi (It only takes one hour in a cab to transfer to the other Emirate) so for one-meal only, we tried PF Changs. They are a large American chain which we have seen extensively in the USA. They have a trademark of large terracotta-like horses at the entrance.
I was nervous about their options but noted that they have quite good communications celebrating their GLUTEN FREE options so I opted for the Mongolian Beef described on the menu as “Sweet, soy-glazed flank steak wok-seared with scallions and garlic“. Interesting that this is GF, which means they must use a GF soy sauce and also mange cross-contamination in their kitchens.
Whilst other dishes were placed in the middle of the table for sharing, I stuck to my known GF dish and enjoyed that. It was very tasty and a good generous portion.
Whilst this is not a comprehensive review of UAE, it offers a couple of options for Gluten Free eating which have been tried and tested (in the brief 36 hours spent in the UAE).
