Product Reviews, Restaurant Reviews and Recipes: All GLUTEN FREE!
So looking forward to the Allergy & Free From Show, happening in a few weeks time at Olympia London.
They are such a great opportunity to see the latest savoury products, sweet treats, innovations and developments with GLUTEN FREE food and all these allergy-related. Lots to try, taste, buy (with special discounts and offers). The London show is huge in comparison to the Liverpool event so well worth a trip down to the Capital if you’re unsure. Last year, I had two reports covering the many suppliers that I saw and tasted in London: on the Sweet treats and bakery items included lots of different bread products as well as meeting Red Mill’s famous Bob. Chocolates, Supermarket and Meal Providers which were also on show in London last year.
For a flavour of the event, see below my report from the last show held in Liverpool….
Last weekend was the Allergy & Free From Show North, at the Liverpool’s BT Convention Centre, just by the River Mersey. It is a sister event of the main London Show which was held at Olympia in July 2014. (I have previously posted about the great array of Sweet Treats and Bakery items as well as talked about the super Chocolatiers, Supermarkets and Meal Providers at the London event) so this is my review of the Savoury Treats on offer for tasting and for purchasing in Liverpool.(Link to the Sweet Treats at the Liverpool Allergy & Free From Show).
The Liverpool event is probably half the size of the London Show but all the key suppliers and manufacturers, including some very new ones were in attendance. So what was on?
A highlight for me was attending a cookery demonstration by Howard Middleton (a former Baker on the Great British Bake Off series 2013) who was introduced as a GLUTEN FREE Baker working with Newburn bakery products. He was funny, quirky and entertaining whilst he made three dishes LIVE to the audience in the middle of the Hall. He made an Eggy-Bread dish (or flapjacks as he called them: one with smoked paprika!) and a Rosemary Roasted Chicken Roll with a Winterslaw. He offered lots of advice and suggestions as he cooked his way through three dishes.
Savoury Treats: Tried and Tasted…
Made by Isabels, these GLUTEN FREE balls were delicious with a crispy outside and a chewy middle. The full range of mixes were available at the show.
Made by Clive’s Pies, these handmade pies were “opened” to show you how much filling was in them and all the flavours were available to taste. I really liked the Cheese and Potato pie which was creamy and cheesy.
The DS stand had several of their products available to buy as well as for tasting. I do like and have reviewed their Sausage Rolls on my blog before which are available in the freezer, alongside their pizza. They also had their bread (with strawberry jam) for tasting.
Glutafin were offering their new Pasta which was very tasty. It held together well and had a firm texture to it.
The Newburn Bakehouse had a large stand dedicated to their bakery products. They offered “free” bagels to attendees if you said some “quote” to them on the stand, so I shall review those separately. They also had several “chefs” wandering around with trays of bread for tasting.
Genius were offering their new Lemon Cupcakes, Chocolate Cupcakes and sliced bread for tasting. The Lemon cupcakes were tangy and had a generous cream-cheese style topping. They also had their new Chocolate Brioche for sale which was exciting as I havent seen that in any shops yet. I have reviewed Genius Croissant on my blog as well as their frozen pastry.
Made by Angelic, a selection of biscuits were on offer for tasting. The Sweet Chilli cracker was crunchy and lightly spiced which was nice: not too hot!
Not everyone had something to offer for free: The Honest Carrot were selling their “burgers” and “roasts” as well as their GLUTEN FREE Bread. I have had their GF Bread which was tasty if somewhat cumbersome to remove from the clay-pot!
Eat Real crisps made from Quinoa, lentils and Hummus were tasty and refreshing and of course GLUTEN FREE.
From the USA, Amy’s Kitchen were tasting several dishes. I tried the new noodles which were served with some vegetables and they were tasty. I have previously enjoyed their Mac n Cheese, Broccoli and Cheese Bake and their Rice-based pizza.
Kirsty from Kirsty’s Ready Meals was serving on their stand.
Udis had a large stand which had shelves full of their GLUTEN FREE Products. I do love their Cheese Tortilla crisps, Bagel Chips although I was disappointed that they won’t be selling Mince Pies this year!
A great selection of Savoury treats at the Allergy & Free From Show North. Check out my other posting on Sweet treats from the Show…
