Product Reviews, Restaurant Reviews and Recipes: All GLUTEN FREE!
To celebrate 75 years of M&M’s, Mars Confectionery have announced that three new flavours are coming out for a LIMITED TIME, with a vote to decide which ones makes it permanently as a NEW addition to the every-increasing M&M’s range. Maybe they’re NUTTY by asking consumers to vote on Facebook and other social media sites but the new flavours are:
There is no news (YET) as to whether these flavours will be GLUTEN FREE but it is likely they will be given only the Pretzel-flavoured M&M’s and Crispy M&M’s are ones that contain WHEAT or BARLEY MALT. Occasionally, they launch seasonal variations which have a risk of GLUTEN cross-contamination, because they’re manufactured in facilities that also use Gluten Containing Ingredients. (At Christmas 2015, I saw that “Holiday Mint M&M’s“, “White Mint M&M’s” and “Cafe Mocha M&M’s” all stated “May contain WHEAT” in the USA.
The ones deemed GLUTEN FREE include:
This is applicable for the UK & USA (as in Australia, I believe they are made differently and DO CONTAIN WHEAT! This is not unsurprising as Smarties in the UK “May contain WHEAT” but in the USA, they are definitely GLUTEN FREE!) The Mars statement is available for viewing on the USA website. The following “flavours” were seen at Christmas 2015 (with Photographs of packaging) in the USA:
Peanut Butter M&M’s:
Contains MILK, LACTOSE, SOY & PEANUTS. “May contain Tree NUTS“
Dark Chocolate M&M’s:
Contains MILK & SOY. “May Contain PEANUTS“
Contains MILK, ALMONDS & SOY. “May contain other Tree NUTS and PEANUTS”
M&M’s are one of the most patriotic USA chocolate candies as it was the military whom requested Mars make chocolate for their troops at the start of World War II. The candy’s hard exterior meant the chocolate didn’t melt and was ideally suited for Overseas travel. When Second World War ended, soldiers were still clamoring for the tiny treats, and Mars started to sell to regular customers from 1947.
To celebrate 75 years of Chocolates, Mars have launched a new campaign featuring an updated version of the song Candyman with singer Aloe Blacc and DJ /Producer Zedd which includes snippets of old advertisements from their archives.
So when I get hold of these NEW M&M’s (especially the Honey Nut M&M’s), I will examine the Ingredients and advise and look out for the retro-packaging which will be introduced SOON.
