Of course, it’s something I’ve always known but last week, more evidence was published that suggests there is a proven link between eating moderate chocolate consumption and improved cognitive performance. From over 40-years of research, studying over 1,000 people in the USA State of New York, they have tracked the relationship between eating chocolate (at least once a week), with improved memory and abstract thinking. Even cynics will be impressed as the research recognized that even after making adjustments for age, cardiovascular risks and dietary habits, they still noted improvements included ‘visual-spatial memory, working memory, scanning and tracking, abstract reasoning and the mini-mental state examination’.
Psychologist Merrill Elias stated “We found that people who eat chocolate at least once a week tend to perform better cognitively. It’s significant – it touches a number of cognitive domains.” This translates into everyday tasks such as remembering a phone number, or your shopping list, or being able to do two things at once, like talking and driving at the same time!
