Product Reviews, Restaurant Reviews and Recipes: All GLUTEN FREE!
Travelling across to the Mid-West, I did have some good GLUTEN FREE Meals in Detroit, whilst seeing the tourist highlights of the Henry Ford Family Museum, the Henry Ford Factory Tour, Greenfield Village and the Motown Museum! This was my GLUTEN FREE experience:
PF Changs: A good Chinese Chain that has launched a separate GLUTEN FREE Menu since I visited last time with a few more dishes. A good selection as it used to be a handful of dishes but now they have enough to produce a separate Menu. I choose the “Street Noodles”; which was thin rice noodles, savory soy sauce, shrimp, chicken and julienned veggies. It was tasty but I felt the soy sauce was very weak and had to request an additional portion which was presented in a bowl.
And lovely to get a Fortune Cookie when you pay the bill but a shame that clearly as a Coeliac, I can not eat it!
Michigan Cafe @Henry Ford Museum: There are several eateries across the complex but very few offer GLUTEN FREE options so we choose the main restaurant which had well-informed staff who were able to advise which dishes were GLUTEN FREE. It’s a strange restaurant as you choose and then head to different counters to “Order” and they give you a receipt. After paying for it, they bring it over on a tray so rather confusing. This was a very large meal (probably too much for a lunch) and I felt there was an excess of garlic flakes across the whole dish. But it set me up for the day!
Andiamo Riverfront: Along the Riverfront of Detroit, looking across to Canada, a great Italian was recommended on several GF blogs so I quite fancied a change. It was warm enough to sit outside and take in the riverfront and I choose the Bolognese GF Pasta and it was very meaty and really tasty. It had a great depth of tomato flavour as well as lots of meat smothered in Parmesan. A good plate full of pasta and sauce: too much for me to finish: but filling and a great GLUTEN FREE choice.
