Product Reviews, Restaurant Reviews and Recipes: All GLUTEN FREE!
And yet another announcement that our favourite Chocolate Bars are shrinking yet further. Earlier this year we heard that it is likely that Mars, Kit Kats and Dairy Milk are likely to be reduced as part of the measures to reduce sugar contents in snacks and last year (2016) we saw Roses reduced in size as well as new refreshed packaging, Quality Street Chocolates following suit with smaller volumes and changes to the selection, Terry’s Chocolate Oranges reduced but kept in the same boxes! Tolberone being spread with larger gaps between the triangular chunks of Chocolate and even bags of snack chocolates being shrunk including Maltesers and Galaxy Counters. So more news ain’t that surprising!?
So M&M’s Family packs have been reduced by 25 grams to a new bag size of 140 grams (made by Mars) and m&m’s are almost 10% lighter (also made by Mars). Of course, they’re not reducing the price but keeping the same price point and have acknowledged that “We have been absorbing rising raw material and operational costs for some time, but the growing pressures mean that we can’t keep things as they are. ” Mars have added to say “Reducing the size of our produts not a decision that we take easily but we’re confident that our chocolate brands still offer our customers and consumers the best possible value for money without compromising on quality or taste.”
And looking ahead, already it has been mentioned that a hard Brexit could lead to higher prices as the UK may end up trading on World Trading Organisation rules outside of the European Community with new tariffs as well as increased costs which will probably be passed onto the consumer so watch this space…
In addition, other chocolates made by Mars which are changing includes Maltesers (which do contain GLUTEN and are NOT suitable for Coeliacs) have shrunk from a 121 gram bag to the 103 gram bag and Revels (which also contains GLUTEN!).
