Eating a GLUTEN FREE Lunch @River Cottage in Axminster, Devon…

It is always a delight when we’re passing close by to River Cottage, as we like to see if Hugh Fernley Whittingstall is in his kitchen serving lunch as it is favourite of ours. They always serve good wholesome food and I have found them very accommodating with my dietary requirements. It has been a while since we’ve been to the Canteen in Axminster and the Canteen in Plymouth but it was a delight to be back.

At River Cottage

First, I noted that they have amended their Menu and now add “Gluten Free” next to the dishes which can be made GLUTEN FREE rather than relying on the staff to discuss the options with you. This seems a more relaxed approach to meals and they also highlight “Dairy Free” and “Vegetarian” and “Vegan” options on the Menu.

As it was a late lunch, I opted for a Main Course and went for the “Seasonal Vegetable Salad” Roast Portabello, rocket, organic susses halloumi & lentils” but checked whether it would be a good size as I was hungry. The waiter advised that many people don’t finish the bowl so I would be fine!

My Lunch

A really wholesome salad with (rocket) leaves as well as the fresh meaty flavours from the mushroom, a different texture with the lentils as well as the refreshing softness from the halloumi cheese. It was covered in a light oil dressing and indeed, was a good size, although I did finish the whole bowl.

so Thank You Hugh Fernley Whittingstall for a straight-forward wholesome and tasty GLUTEN FREE lunch @River Cottage.
